A Tough One

The Astros ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday night in the form of the hard hitting Yankees! We made some great plays in the field, stopping most balls and throwing to the proper bases, but the opposition was just too much to overcome. The girls are still improving, and hopefully having fun. We will look to turn things around on Monday night against the Mariners!

The Comeback Kids

Down by 2, last inning, haven't played for two weeks ... most teams would fold under such circumstances, but not the mighty Astros! With some clutch hitting, the Stargirls rallied to plate two runs in the bottom of the third tonight to tie the Mets, 3-3. The 'Stros have shown immense improvement at the plate lately, and our play in the field is getting better and better! In addition, the coach-appointed nicknames of individual girls are developing. We take on the Yankees at 6 on Wednesday, July 7th - watch out for Lightning, Laser, Bubbles, and the Big Hurt!

Game 4 - Another close call

Some great plays in the field, the lead changing hands, some awesome pitching, and a whole lot of fun - not a bad Wednesday evening, right? While the Astros lost a close one to the Mariners, 4-2, we continued to show improvement in our knowledge of the game, placement on the diamond, and where to throw the ball. We still need to work on covering the bases and swinging the bat, but the progress since our first practice is tremendous! After an open night on Monday, we will storm back onto the field on Wednesday against the Rockies. Hopefully the girls will have a chance this weekend to practice a little Saturday morning (or any other in in the front yard) , check out the Brewers (and Tigers) on TV, and get ready to rock it next week!

A Furious Rally Falls Short

The Astros were poised to come back from a deficit in the top of the fourth tonight, but we ran out of gas and dropped the game to the hard-hitting Yankees, 5-1. The girls made a few solid plays in the field, throwing the ball to the proper base, trying a play at the plate, and recording a few outs at first. In addition, some fantastic bubbles were blown by the team - sorry about the dental bills. Our goal for Wednesday's nights contest is to swing the bat and have every girl make contact. We're poised to drive a ton of runners home - so watch out, Rockies!

A tough one in Game 2 - but still having fun!

The Astros had a tough go of it on Wednesday, falling to the Mets, 8-1. We made some great plays in the field and had a few timely hits, but the opposition just seemed to find some holes and push a few more runners around the bases. Hopefully we will return to game one form against the Yankees next week! I hope everyone likes the picture slide show. I will make sure that all of the girls are in the slide show over the next few games.

Astros open the season in grand fashion!

What a way to get the summer going! With only one practice under our belts, and some beautiful black uniforms that are a tad bit roomy, we began the season with an exciting game against the Rockies on Monday night. After five thrilling innings and a tense final out, the Astros came out on top, 2-1. All of the girls played in various positions, both infield and outfield, and catcher turned out to be a very popular spot. The girls looked great at the plate, as nearly everyone put the ball in play at least once. Most importantly, all the girls had a ton of fun and learned a little more about the game of softball. The fun continues Wednesday when we take on Mets at 6:00 - hope to see you there!

GAME LOCATION CHANGED

Our games have been moved from Lydell to the WFB HS diamond, adjacent to the parking lot and football stadium. The best bet is to park in the lot off of Ardmore (or on Ardmore). Our first game will be there on Monday, June 16, against the rockin' Rockies!
